Ford Bronco Sport Vs. The Competition

Ford Bronco Sport Vs. the Competition

There are a lot of awesome benefits in getting as far away from civilization as you can and just having fun in the great outdoors. The Ford Bronco Sport is built to take you there and to do it in style. While some off-road SUVs take a more stripped-down approach to design and comfort, the Ford Bronco Sport gives you plenty of both. At the same time, the Bronco Sport is up against some serious competitors that you might also be considering. Here's how this SUV compares with the Toyota RAV4 and the Jeep Compass, and why we think you'll be better off getting the Bronco Sport at Taylor Ford of Manteno in Manteno, IL.

A comparison of performance

The Ford Bronco Sport has an exceptional level of off-road capability thanks to its standard all-wheel drive, extra ground clearance and hefty all-terrain tires. It works well for light off-roading as well as daily commuting because it gives you a smooth, comfortable ride on paved surfaces. The Toyota RAV4 and the Jeep Compass both offer some rugged capabilities but they don't give you the same kind of standard off-road equipment as the Bronco Sport.

A comparison of powertrains and performance

The Ford Bronco Sport offers a choice of two different engines: A turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, so it gives you more options than the other two. After all, the RAV4 and the Jeep Compass offer only a four-cylinder engine. In addition, the Bronco Sport gives you a choice of two output levels. The standard engine in the Bronco Sport generates 181 horsepower and the four-cylinder delivers 245 horsepower. That's substantially more than the Toyota RAV4 at 203 horsepower or the Jeep Compass at only 200 horsepower. The Bronco Sport also gives you more ground clearance than either of the other two SUVs and it has more towing capacity than the RAV4 or the Jeep Compass.

A comparison of design

The Bronco Sport has a memorable retro exterior style and comes in five different trim levels. The RAV4 and the Jeep Compass have several trim levels as well but the style isn't as distinctive. The Ford Bronco Sport comes with unique touches like a glass rear hatch, a built-in bottle opener and a rear liftgate with overhead lighting that turns the rear cargo hold into a workstation or a camping center. You can configure the storage areas to fit mountain bikes and add other recreational gear including washable rubberized flooring and a slide-out work table. Those are all design features that aren't offered on the RAV4 or the Jeep Compass.

A comparison of technology

The Ford Bronco Sport not only has an abundance of standard technology but it also offers more available add-on options than the RAV4 or the Jeep Compass. The infotainment system includes a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen that's simple to use. The RAV4 comes with a 10.1-inch touchscreen while the Jeep Compass has the same 8.0-inch touchscreen as the Bronco Sport. Standard tech features in the Bronco Sport include SYNC® 3 with voice-activated technology, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, SiriusXM satellite radio and USB ports. The Bronco Sport also offers an available Bang & Olufsen premium sound system with 12 speakers and a subwoofer.

A comparison of safety features

The Bronco Sport and the Toyota RAV4 both offer similar safety features like evasive steering assist and full-speed adaptive cruise control. The Bronco Sport gives you standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic detection, something you can't get from the RAV4 until you move up into higher trim levels. And unfortunately, the Jeep Compass simply doesn't match the Bronco Sport in terms of safety features.
